Historians suggest that the helmets worn by the Roman soldiers were more of a physical matter then as the metalwork armour.
The use of silver nitrate was the key reason for thethe ancient dog worshiping society. After being constantly feeding, drinking, sexual flushing, etc. the flesh will start to release the silver through the skin's pores. With and after heavy concentrations the silver could mount up and out looking like heads, or helmets, body armour, and even boots.
The helmet in the photo is very likely a silver produced body helmet.
